So How Does the Champagne Taste, Garko?

Big mouth Indians first baseman Ryan Garko made one of the most boneheaded statements of the postseason after Cleveland lost Game 5 at home and had to try to win the pennant in Boston. He said: "The champagne tastes just as good on the road as it does at home."

The Red Sox used that as bulletin board material, and actually put that up on the back of their clubhouse door at Fenway. So, how are you enjoying the bubbly now, Ryan?

MLB also jumped the gun by offering Indians fans the paraphernalia you see in the picture that's shown. This was up on MLB's web site shortly after Cleveland won Game 4. I guess they were so sure the Red Sox couldn't come back in this series and that Cleveland had the series all wrapped up.

I guess it also serves those Indians fans for waving those towels that said, "World Series 2007" on them as well. They sure were tempting fate with that, as well as those knuckleheaded Indian fans who held up signs that said, "The Curse Is Back" directed at the Red Sox after the Indians won Game 4. This coming from fans whose team hasn't won a World Series since 1948.

Payback's a bitch, guys.

of all the villains in the world, ryan garko does't exactly stand out.

I heard that Garko's not a bad guy, but that was just a really lame-brained thing to say, especially when you're on a team that hasn't won in so long. I think should have waited until they were popping the bubbly to say it.

Might need the mittens at Fenway too, as the temps are going down this week. Thanks for stopping by, Wayward...see you in the spring.

& Indians Pitching over the last few days, resembled the Mets in the last week @ Shea Stadium:

Is "Bottom-Feeding" to harsh a description?

I really don't see what the big fuss is about. These sorts of media angles have been done to death and are the stock and trade of lazy writers from major newspapers to blogs everywhere. All his statement shows me is that he is youthful and confident, and also in hind-sight, incorrect.

But there is a bigger issue here.

Here you have your favorite team winning an ALCS in game seven in dramatic come from behind fashion and all you have to talk about is... the Cleveland Indians? Lame is about the kindest adjective i can think of.

Also, no team in the history of competitive sports has ever manufactured clothing/goods, etc for an upcoming series ahead of time. completely unprecedented.

This Garko kid may be a bone-head (and by all right he appears to be) but he has more class than 1,000 writers of columns such as this.

Maybe it will teach some players not to jump the gun as far as opening their mouths about making such "confident" statements.

But it probably won't.

BTW, read my last post. I give the Indians credit for taking out the Yankees in the ALDS. They are an up and coming team that could be a force in the AL for years to come. And that they have nothing to be ashamed of.

But I bet you probably didn't do that.

hey, no worries man. prolly shouldn't have gone off like that, i very much dislike the impersonality of the internet, much rather chew the particulars out in a bar over a few drinks, but after so many articles and blogs over the whole garko thing I think I maybe kinda snapped.

also, very bitter over a 3 game collapse, obviously.

Good luck to you and yours! I have absolutely no idea what to make of these upstart rockies but bring home the championship to the AL!

No problem at all, LSF. Thanks for the good wishes, as they are very much appreciated.

You've got a terrific team in Cleveland, and the Indians will be back. I've suffered through painful losses before, so I know what you're going through.

Once again, thanks for taking out the Yankees in the ALDS.

Garko says he was talking about beating the Yanks on the road.
