Sox Pick Up Option On Papi

The Red Sox are exercising the 2011 option they have on David Ortiz, according to NESN. Big Papi will be making $12.5 million for the upcoming season.

They will also pick up the option on Scott Atchison and decline one on infielder Felipe Lopez, so he is now a free agent.

I'm sure he's unhappy he didn't get two years but Papi lives on inBoston, thank goodness.

And hopefully he's motivated for a big 2011 also.

do you suppose the sawx will give up talent and try to do a deal with padres for gonzalez? seems like they're in a tough spot ... they wouldn't want to lose out on both AG and A. Beltre.

I think they will make a play for Gonzalez, Wayward. Youkilis has been OK with a shift back to third. I think Beltre is a goner for sure, and the Sox will try to keep Martinez.

Thanks for the correction, JQ. When will you be on Millionaire? Let us know.

I was on Millionaire last December, Peter. They do rerun it every so often.
