Addition By Subtraction

During his introductory press conference on Tuesday, new GM Ben Cherington announced that John Lackey would miss the entire 2012 season, as he will shortly have Tommy John surgery.

I had only reaction to that news: a sense of relief.

I found it wonderfully ironic. Lackey pitches likes a batting practice pitcher and now blows out his elbow necessitating TJ surgery.

Though I suppose that Tommy John may be insulted that his name is in the same sentence as John Lackey.

No matter how badly Lackey's pitched, I hope his surgery goes well and he comes back a better pitcher. The Sox are stuck with him for 2013 at least. Some guys have come back better after TJ surgery. We'll see.
