What's Up With the RemDawg?

Jerry Remy was once again out for last night's game with the Rays. NESN said he was out because of illness, and didn't say it was related to the time he missed during spring training.

I found it odd that Don Orsillo was paired last night with Buck Martinez. No knock on Buck, who is not a bad analyst, but he does the Orioles games on MASN. How did they let him do a Red Sox-Rays game last night?

I wish all the best to Jerry Remy, and hope he gets back soon. Despite his wacky persona in the Red Sox booth, he is very much a private man away from it. It just ain't the same without the RemDawg in the booth.

And speaking of NESN, Red Sox legend Dave Roberts has officially been added to the network, and will serve a studio analyst. He will make his debut at Yankee Stadium on Monday (how perfect, as he's always been known to do well against the Yankees), and will be in the booth to call a few innings as well.

Welcome aboard, Mr. Roberts.

You must not have had the audio feed fully at Thoms last night. Buck was going to be in attendance at last night’s game in preparation for a National Broadcast this weekend. When NESN knew they needed a seasoned and experienced second man they reached out to Buck. I don’t get the jist of your post? Would you have preferred that Orsillo did the game by himself? I though Buck did a really good job and I love gaining some perspective on the team from someone from outside the market. I thought he was more knowledgeable and informative that I could have imagined.

I don't know what is specifically wrong with Remy, but the recent Globe magazine article mentioned that he has recently quit smoking after many many years. Its possible there was something that prompted that decision to quit. Let's hope not, and that he just decided to get healthier.

Yes, actually I was in Thom's and the sound was for the Celtics game, so I didn't hear why Buck was there. Actually I was wondering why an analyst for another team was doing last night's Red Sox-Rays game. Always liked him, as he is a good announcer. Thanks for the info, Dan.

I really hope Jerry isn't having any smoking related health problem too, Michael...

Grrr... thanks for stealing Dave Roberts NESN ;) He was great on the Padres pre-game season but I guess how often can you talk about poor hitting with runners in scoring position and an awful bullpen.
