Colts Reign Supreme

The Indianapolis Colts won their first Super Bowl since they played in Baltimore in 1971 with a convincing 29-17 win over the Chicago Bears in a constant rain at Dolphin Stadium last night.

Peyton Manning silenced his critics and finally won "The Big One." He was voted the game's MVP, going 25-for-38 with 247 yards passing and a TD. Well, this season we saw Peyton Manning in a slew of commercials. You can just imagine how many we are going to see him in in the next six months now that he has a Super Bowl championship and an MVP award on his resume.

I was glad to see a classy player like Marvin Harrison win a championship as well. He plays the game the right way and is basically overlooked because he's not a showboat and doesn't bring attention to himself.

But I am very happy for Tony Dungy. He's a very good football man, but an even better human being. He's gone through hell in recent years, mostly due to the suicide of his son a couple of years ago. He deserved to win this championship, and it will be interesting to see if he calls it a career now that he was won a Super Bowl. (He also becomes the third player to win a Super Bowl as a player and head coach, joining Tom Flores and Mike Ditka.) I hope he does return.

As for the Bears, they were totally outplayed by a better Indianapolis Colts team. But of all the Bears, Rex Grossman will take the most heat for the loss for sure. He threw two key interceptions, and the Chicago press will eat him for breakfast on Monday. His rep as a lousy QB came back to haunt him, and Bears fans are sure to remind him forever of this loss. (He may want to look into going into the Witness Protection Program.)

I just missed with my prediction (I picked the Colts, 24-20), but I got the team right (but not the spread).
