Will Middlebrooks suffered a broken right wrist after getting hit by a pitch from Indians' reliever Esmil Rogers in the ninth inning on Friday night. This will probably end the rookie's impressive season.
If so, Middlebrooks will end 2012 with 15 home runs, 54 RBI and a .288 average.
Danny Valencia will be called up to replace him. He was acquired last weekend from the Twins in a minor league deal.
Third base will probably be split among Valencia, Nick Punto and Pedro Ciriaco.
