A Nice, Crisp Two Hours & Seven Minutes

Tim Wakefield pitched a beauty at Fenway Park on Friday night, allowing just two runs in eight innings to the Baltimore Orioles, as the Sox pulled out a 3-2 win. He also broke Roger Clemens' record for Fenway Park starts, with 201.

And once again, the briskly played game, the quickest Red Sox one of the year at 2:07, with Wake on the hill makes a liar and a dimwit out of Newsday hack sportswriter Wallace Matthews.

Wake allowed a home run to Nick Markakis in the fourth, and an RBI single by Eric Patterson's brother, Corey. The Red Sox had a devil of a time with the O's Brian Bergesen, who allowed just two solo homers by J.D. Drew. But in the eighth, Marco Scutaro doubled, and Daniel Nava played the role of hero, as he hit a pinch-hit dunker down the right field line that fell between the first baseman, second baseman and right fielder for an RBI single.

Jonathan Papelbon got the O's 1-2-3 in the ninth for his 19th save.

The Red Sox are now just a half-game back, as New York lost to Toronto in a rare Friday afternoon game at Yankee Stadium.

Before the game, the Red Sox called up relief pitcher Robert Manuel and infielder Nuiman Romero from Pawtucket. And we've also had a Jed Lowrie sighting. He begins his rehab at Lowell on Monday.

Do you realize that Wallace Matthews has a new job? Both he and Ian O'Connor, that air head, were hired for The ESPN New York "hyper local" site.

No wonder it sucks.

Another site I'll avoid. Thanks Eddie.
