Papelbon To Philly

Jonathan Papelbon reached an agreement with the Phillies on a four year-$50 million deal today, so I guess that means the Ryan Madson deal, reached earlier this week, is dead.

And now the guessing game for the Red Sox is who will close next season: Daniel Bard, Madson, or someone like Heath Bell?

The Red Sox weren't going to give Papelbon a contract like that, and they will also receive two first-round picks when the deal is done.

It was some ride. Thanks for the memories, Pap, especially this one, from October, 2007:

My vote is for Heath Bell.

Or maybe arm wrestling Phillies for Paps? Sigh.

He will be missed.
