Quotes to Keep in Mind

It's time to rally the troops, hunker down, have a stiff drink, support our boys and come out slugging. As we venture into the final days of this long regular season campaign, and for the benefit of you Nation members who are on the verge of panic, keep these quotes in mind.

"Hope is a good thing - maybe the best thing, and no good thing ever dies.”
--Andy Dufresne, "The Shawshank Redemption"

"
We made no excuses and have none, it’s on us. We’ll find out over the next 9 games who we are and what we’re made of. We played ourselves into this cushion and we’re at the point of using it up. Tip your hat to the Yanks for playing as well as they have too, regardless of how well anyone has done they’ve put themselves into this position by answering the bell when they needed to. I would tell you we’ll do the same. We’ll right the ship starting tomorrow and get after it from there."
--Curt Schilling, "38Pitches," September 20, 2007

"Never, never, never give up."
--Winston Churchill

"To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number 1 is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number 2 is think. You should spend some time in thought. And Number 3 is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.
Don't give up. Don't ever give up."
--Jim Valvano, March 4, 1993

I hope they helped.

wait, I am confused.

1) With the Sox all but assured of a postseason berth, haven't you implied that the division title is pretty much meaningless, and if so, why the need to post a bunch of rah-rah inspirational quotes?

2) The Red Sox are still ahead...why on earth would they, or we as their fans, have to be reminded not to give up?

Let's stop being such fearful little pussbags and kick some Yankee ASS!

Colby, I'm just trying to pick up the spirits of those fans who come by here who think the roof is collapsing and the Sox are finished.

They are, of course, FAR from finished. They ARE going to the playoffs. But it would be nice to see them get out of those doldrums and win some games before the second season begins.

Just doing my part to pick up the morale of Red Sox Nation!!

AND I'm with you. Let's start kicking ass and taking names, especially that from that bunch from the Bronx...

Like Tug Mc Graw once said in 1973, "Ya Gotta Believe", that holds true, today

"Ladies & Gentleman, Fasten Your Seatbelts, We're In The 9th Inning", a quote of The GRAND Mr Bob Murphy

Over the top to use a quote from Jimmy V, to inspire cancer patients to keep fighting, in an effort to buoy the spirits of people who watch games, no? Or do you look at the Valvano quote as pertaining to everyone's daily struggles? Not criticizing, just seems a little bombastic for you...

I just love that Jimmy V speech a lot, Matty. Here's a man who's about to die (and he did a month later) telling everyone to keep going, and never to give up. Keep living life, no matter what life throws at you, and yes, I was looking at it more about life's daily struggles. A little over the top for the Red Sox now? Perhaps. But I liked it so much I thought I would use it.
