Tim Wakefield got his 198th career win on Wednesday night over Toronto, and the 184th in his Sox career, trailing by eight the great Cy Young and the Guy Currently On Trial For Perjury and Other Charges In Washington DC.
Wake went seven innings and allowed three runs. He struck out seven and walked one.
The Red Sox scored four in the fourth to put them up to stay, and wound up with a 6-4win. Jacoby Ellsbury had a leadoff home run and two doubles, and drove in three and stole a base as well.
Jonathan Papelbon had to make it interesting once again in ninth, but he slammed the door after allowing a run.
Indians beat the Yankees in Cleveland, so the Red Sox are now just a half-game back in the AL East.
Jon Lester was put on the DL before the game, but will miss just two starts, due to the All-Star break. Scott Atchison was brought up to take Alfredo Aceves' spot in the pen, as he will move into the rotation. The Sox also announced that Carl Crawford will rejoin the team on July 18th, after a short injury rehab stint in the minors.
