The Red Sox kept the momentum from their West Coast swing going this week, taking the first series of three at home, with 13-2 and 4-3 wins over the Orioles, before falling last night, 3-2.
They win a blowout. They come back and win late. The pitching continues to be outstanding.
So much to like here right now.
Jon Lester wasn't sensational last night, but he pitched well enough to win. He was outpitched by the Orioles' Chris Tillman, who won his 15th game last night.
It was a game Baltimore absolutely had to win last night. It keeps them 6 1/2 games behind the Red Sox. The Sox lead Tampa Bay (who lost yesterday) by 2 1/2, and New York by 8.
The White Sox now come into Fenway for three, with Ryan Dempster making his Fenway Park return after taking the last 12 days off. You think he'll get a nice hand when he walks out to the mound tonight? It's been a season to forget in Chicago, as they are last in the AL Central. But they have won 8 of their last 10 games, so they are not to be taken for granted.
Here's the fun fact of the day, courtesy of Josh Kantor on Twitter from last night:
I think that's the first time the immortal Mr. Poindexter has ever been mentioned on this blog.
