Daisuke Matsuzaka looked spectacular last night in Oakland, as he struck out nine and retired the last 13 batters he faced as the Red Sox won their first regular season game in the US last night, 2-1.
Dice-K allowed just an opposite field home run to Jack Cust. He also didn't walk a batter, which is an excellent sign, and allowed just two hits in 6 2/3 innings. Jason Varitek came out of his early slump to get two hits, including an RBI double that appeared to be a home run on the replay, as it above the yellow line in right field.
The Red Sox are now 2-1, and have accomplished what they needed to against the A's: at least a split of the first four games. They complete the series today with Jon Lester on the hill.
As I was watching the game last night after Trivia, I saw a freaky thing happen. Two of the starters from the 2004 World Series champions went down on the same night in different games. Pedro Martinez suffered what looked to be a hamstring injury in Florida, in the fourth inning of the Mets 5-4, 10-inning loss. He will have an MRI today to see the extent of his injury. Just what the Mets need. More injuries.
And later in the night, Derek Lowe got hit with a line drive in his heel in a game in LA against the Giants. He limped off the field, and the extent of his injury is not known as I write this. I wish them all the best, and hope neither injury is anything serious.

According to Kevin Burghardt on SNY, Pedro's hamstring popped out. He said you could hear it pop out.
