I've been playing softball pretty steady on Saturday nights, so once again with the Red Sox playing a night game in Philly, I was doing plenty of checking on the iPhone.
And most times the news was good. The Sox belted four home runs: Mike Aviles, David Ortiz (recovering from the flu), Will Middlebrooks and Jarrod Saltalamacchia (recovering from a nasty cut to the side of the head). They led the entire way on Saturday.
I got home in time for the bottom of the eighth, so with the TV muted (would you really want to listen to Buck and McCarver?), I saw the Phillies get a run back to make it 7-5. Alfredo Aceves got out of a bases loaded jam by getting Shane Victorino to pop up.
Aceves gave up two singles in the ninth, but fortunately got a line drive double play sandwiched between them, and struck out Carlos Ruiz to end it.
Jon Lester got his third win, going six innings and allowed four earned runs. The Red Sox have now won 7 of 9, split the first four games of the road trip, and go for the series win today with Josh Beckett.
