A Minnesota judge issued a temporary restraining order preventing the NFL from suspending Pat and Kevin Williams yesterday, stating that he needed more time to hear arguments in their case.
The judge's name is Gary Larson, which coincidentally was the name of a Vikings defensive tackle (the position played by both players) of the early 1970s. It's not the same guy, of course. The players' status for Sunday right now remains uncertain.
What is certain is that NFL lawyers will go to court in Minneapolis to get the suspensions of the Vikings' players reinstated. Here's more about this bizarre case from ESPN.
In other football news, Notre Dame announced that Charlie Weis will be back for a fifth season with the Irish in 2009. He still has seven years on his current contract, but you have to figure that next season will be make it or break for him. ND either makes the next step in becoming an elite team again or they'll have a new coach in 2010.
