Never Forget, Strength Through Sacrifice

Yesterday in Avondale, Louisiana, a new ship was christened by the United States Navy: The USS New York. It is the sixth ship in the Navy's history to have the name of the state of New York, but this ship is particularly special: part of it was made from the steel of the rubble from the World Trade Center.

24 tons of steel from the WTC was used to make the ship's bow. (Photo courtesy of the USS New York's blog site.)

Before many dignitaries, including members of the FDNY, NYPD and 9/11 victims families, the ship was officially christened on Saturday. It will carry up to 360 sailors, and 700 Marines.

The ship's motto is: "Never Forget, Strength Through Sacrifice."

The ship also has its own web site: http://www.ussnewyork.com/

May God bless her and may she sail for a long time to come.
