It was an incredibly surreal and crazy scene at Jacobs Field on Friday night as a swarm of gnats made their way to the field during the eighth inning of Game 2 of the ALDS. Yankee players were shown trying to combat the invasion by spraying themselves with Off! and other kinds of bug spray.

The bugs may have assisted, but Joba Chamberlain issued a wild pitch that scored Grady Sizemore with the tying run in that inning to knot the game at 1. (Both teams had to play in that swarm.) The Indians had been leaving runners in scoring position all game, and it finally took a wild pitch to get them on the board.

It was a great pitchers' duel between Fausto Carmona and Andy Pettitte. Carmona pitched nine fabulous innings, and left with a no-decision. I'm sure it will escape no one's notice that Alex Rodriguez has gone 0-for-6 with two walks in the first two games, and since hit home run off Derek Lowe in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS, he is 4-for-50. But of course, he is not the only Yankee not hitting now, as the Indians pitching has been sensational the first two games. Rodriguez also struck out three times last night. (I bet the Yankee Stadium boo-birds will be out in full force if things continue to go wrong with him tomorrow. The MVP-type season he's had will be quickly a memory.)

The Indians finally pulled it out in the eleventh, as Travis Hafner singled with the bases loaded to win it, 2-1. They are now up 2-0 in the series and can sweep the series on Sunday night. The Yankees now have to rely on Roger Clemens, who has not pitched in three weeks.

I couldn't help noting the irony of what happened at Jacobs Field on Friday.
The Mets were done in by the Nats last week.
The Yankees were done in by the gnats last night.
