A Snoozer In Arlington

So, what exactly does the Red Sox offense have against Tim Wakefield?

Wake gave the Red Sox six strong innings, allowed only one earned run, and retired the last 10 hitters he faced, but the Red Sox offense was AWOL all day Friday as the Texas Rangers won their home opener, 2-0, over the Red Sox in Arlington.

Tim is once again the Red Sox "hard luck" pitcher. Last season, in 16 starts where he did not get a victory, the Sox scored a grand total of 23 runs for him. That's less than a run and a half per game. Today's quality start by Wakefield gained him nothing but a loss, and 0.0 runs of support to begin the 2007 season.

The Red Sox could manage just two hits against Robinson Tejeda. (Who?) He pitched seven strong innings and got his first win. The Red Sox hitters looked like they were in rush to go back to the hotel, as they were swinging at a lot of first pitches. The game took barely 2 hours and 15 minutes, and almost had the feel of one of those late September games where both teams are out of it and want to get it over with as soon as possible.

The Red Sox managed just three hits all day, as did Texas. But the Sox couldn't even get a man to third the entire game. David Ortiz continues to struggle, as he went 0-for-4, and he hasn't gotten a hit since his double in his first at-bat on Opening Day.

But there wasn't anything good to say about the offense on this day. Quite a shame, especially for Tim Wakefield.

He sure has seen this act before.

  1. We've seen the same act. But with the exception of Schill, our pitching, 'pen and rotation, looks so good. Let's take 2 in Texas and come home. Happy holiday to you and yours...Peter
