Matsie? I Don't Think So

I saw an interesting article in today's New York Daily News by Bill Gallo, their award-winning cartoonist. He wrote in his column on Sunday that he recently talked with Bobby Valentine before he left for Japan about Daisuke Matsuzaka. Valentine basically told him that Matsuzaka was the goods and will be something special this season for the Red Sox.

But one line in the article I found to be rather strange from Gallo:

This past Wednesday in Kansas City, "Matsie" (gotta give this guy a nickname) showed America that Valentine knew what he was talking about.

Matsie? Gotta give this guy a nickname? Bill, where have you been, bud? Hiding under a rock?

Uh, Bill, Matsuzaka had been called "Dice-K," "The Dice Man" or just "Dice" since the Red Sox acquired his rights in December. (Scott Boras was calling him "D-Mat" before he signed with the Red Sox but that didn't catch on.) Even the title of the article acknowledges his new nickname:
Bobby V: Dice K will be American idol

NO ONE is going to call him "Matsie," Bill. Let that one go.

Here's the complete article:

Have a Happy and blessed Easter, everyone.
