Sad to hear today that Ryan Westmoreland, the Red Sox prospect who had two brain surgeries and tried so hard to return to baseball, retired today at the age of 22.
Westmoreland was a feel-good story after he had his first brain operation in 2010. He was determined to make it back. He had a cavernous malfunction on the brain, and last July he had to be operated on again.
He hit .296 with 7 HRs. 35 RBI, and 19 stolen bases for the Lowell Spinners of the short-season New York-Penn League before his career was cut short.
Here's more from ESPN.
Good luck to you, Ryan, and more importantly, good health to you.
