Jenks figures to be used in a setup role, unless the Red Sox get right offer for Jonathan Papelbon.
The Red Sox also signed six other free agents to minor league contracts today: pitchers Rich Hill, Andrew Miller, Randy Williams, Clevelan Santeliz, Ryan Harvey and one time Sox hurler Lenny DiNardo, who also has a 2004 World Series ring.
The Red Sox also sent Eric Patterson to the Padres as the player to be named later in the Adrian Gonzalez deal.
And Mariano Rivera told reporters today that the possibility of him going to the Red Sox before he re-signed with the Yankees was "real."
