The Red Sox announced the other day that they will be completing their 10-year plan of the renovation of Fenway Park this winter by expanding the bullpens, and adding new and improved seats in right field.The Sox will also add new HD scoreboards, and are replacing seats down the right field line.
The club has to get permission to widen the pens, as Fenway Park is an historic landmark in Massachusetts. Two landmark commissions have to give them the go-ahead to do so.
Right now, the bullpens are 21 feet long, and the Sox want to make them 8-10 feet longer. Many players have complained about the lack of space out there, especially when two pitchers warm up at the same time. It will also be bringing the right field fence in about 9 or 10 feet. It will be interesting to see if this brings up the total of home runs hit by left-handed batters at the Fens, who now have one of MLB's deepest right fields.
So, the Red Sox bullpen will look a lot different than it did this year, in more ways than one.
