There Goes The Undefeated Season

Tough loss to New York on Tuesday night (which postponed my Trivia Night to Thursday this week, thanks ESPN). Jon Lester didn't look sharp, going five innings and allowing four runs.

Victor Martinez hit a bomb to right center off A.J. Burnett (who wasn't sharp either) that made it 3-1, but New York answered with three to take the lead. The Red Sox tied it and it turned into the battle of the pens.

Looked like the Red Sox were getting out of the eighth unscathed, but Marco Scutaro hurried a throw to first that bounced to Kevin Youkilis and allowed the inning to continue. I fear he some rash fans have put Marco deep in the doghouse already. (Give him a chance, guys.) Hideki Okajima walked Nick Johnson with the bases full to give the Yankees the lead. (Why does it seem like everyone's afraid to pitch to this guy?)

David Ortiz took the collar again and is now 0-for-7 to begin the season. And you know what that means. Calls in some circles to pinch-hit or even bench him for Mike Lowell are rising. Papi needed a good start, and this certainly doesn't help his cause.

And speaking of Mr. Lowell, my buddy Jere took some video of his intro on Sunday night, and he tipped his hat to the crowd as they gave him a terrific welcome to 2010. Sox fans never cease to make me proud:

Rubber game of the series with New York tonight as John Lackey makes his Red Sox debut.
