Mike Timlin, who had a rough year out of the bullpen for the Sox in 2008, was added to the ALCS roster yesterday, and reserve infielder Gil Velazquez was taken off as the Red Sox completed their ALCS roster, which has to be finalized today. It was a no-brainer that Sarge was left out of the ALDS, even though he wasn't happy about it. The Sox needed just 10 pitchers in the first round, and will go with 11 in the ALCS. It is the same personnel as the ALDS except that Mike Lowell will not be active for this round.
The Rays added Edwin Jackson to their roster (he was inactive for the ALDS), and former Red Sox player Eric Hinske was taken off for the ALCS.
Kevin Youkilis will start at the third base tonight, and it is thought that Mark Kotsay, who looked like a natural first baseman in Game 4, will get the start at first against James Shields.
