Guess Who's In The Paper Today?

Yep, it's me. Yet again.

Last Tuesday, I was writing the trivia questions for that night's contest, when I came across a letter to the New York Daily News by a reader who wanted to know why Al Sharpton was so silent about the cold blooded murders of two undercover black police officers on Staten Island two years ago. (And Sharpton still is. Recently, the shooter was convicted in Federal Court and may possibly get the death penalty.) Since I had the paper out and my computer on at the same time, I decided to write a response to him.

And today, the Daily News printed it, and to their credit, word-for-word. Here it is:

Silent Al

Brooklyn: Voicer Joe Mazza asked why there was a deafening silence from Al Sharpton over the deaths of undercover Detectives Rodney Andrews and James Nemorin. Simple: Sharpton had nothing to gain for himself from getting involved. He's a hustler and a publicity hound, but he's not stupid. He knows when to move in and when not to. The tragic murders of those two brave men was clearly a time for him to stay in the background.

Well, The Media Machine is off to a flying start in 2007.
